Forbes Solicitors - Chorley

I was arrested on 3rd August 2005 and taken to Leyland Police Station in Lancashire.

I was told that I was not allowed to have the solicitor of my choice I was told "You will have Forbes like everyone else around here" and further told that the solicitor I had asked for in Liverpool who are a very big firm of Solicitors, was unavailable as their phones were just ringing out ....between 8am and 1pm on a weekday?

I was locked in a cell from 8am until noon and then a police surgeon told the police I was unfit to be detained and should be taken to hospital and that if they insisted on detaining me that they should NOT do so for long as I was in shock and hypothermic and my heart was at risk as I have a heart condition.

12.15pm I was placed back in a cell after being examined in full view of male prisoners being brought in, in an office with the door wide open by the charge desk. I was then told Forbes were on their way. Finally at 1pm Joanne Bury from Forbes arrived and told me to just tell the police all that they wanted to know. During the time we were in the interview room Joanne Bury spent a long time talking about her husband playing Golf with the policeman who was interviewing me, and all about her recent marriage and running over her husbands Golf Clubs with her car.

During my time in custody I repeatedly asked how my 15 yr old daughter was who I had been dragged away from at my home despite her having an asthma attack, I asked again how she was they said they didn't know, so clearly I was questioned under duress, and Joanne Bury offered no assistance in getting this information for me.

I had had nothing to eat or drink nor been allowed to use the toilet all day. The interview went on for hours and spanned some 5 tapes, with me just forced to say anything to get out of custody to go and find my daughter. Joanne Bury left the room with the female officer and was chatting in the hall about nights out, half way through the interview whilst the male policeman made a coffee. I was left alone, cold, scared and suffering from shock and hypothermia. At no time during the interview was I considered by Joanne Bury, she just left them to question me and rudely too.

I finally saw my daughter again at 7.30pm, she was in a terrible state having not eaten or drank all day and been dumped on her 15 year old boyfriend and told to stay away from our home all day. The police didn't tell me where she was, I had to find out, they said they didn't know where she was. Joanne Bury was useless and my new solicitor "Tuckers" in Manchester have told me that I was wrongfully treated and that they would NOT have allowed me to be questioned in that state and also that they cannot see from the charges how I could possibly be guilty of anything.

Joanne Bury told me on the day of my arrest I am likely to go to prison, scaring me even more. I had to ring around to find a decent solicitor after I left custody and in that process of another form of solicitors in Liverpool and Chris Hall at Stanley Cross and Co in Chorley both told me that several of their clients who had been taken to Leyland Police Station had all been forced to have Forbes and told that they were not answering their phones all day. So is there some corruption going on between Forbes and Leyland Police Station?

I was told I should have been given a book listing local solicitors and qasked to chose one, but that didn't happen I was forced to have Forbes.....why are they on the side of the police and letting clients make things worse for themselves by being told to tell the police everything whilst being questioned under duress and deemed unfit to be detained by a police surgeon?

I would not recommend Forbes as they seem to be more on the side of the police.
